How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP2825671 / 00189968 Vent Switch

I replaced the switch 

Found replacing the switch to be doable, but it was quite a delicate operation. This was for a Thermador range with a broken downdraft switch. It required the removal of 5 small screws which could easily be fumbled and dropped down where it would be difficult, if not impossible to retrieve. Two of the screws were facing the back, so it was a blind operation to remove and replace the screws. Required an offset screwdriver, as space was tight. So, be EXTREMELY careful to not drop the screws and put rags over any openings/cracks that the screws could fall down into. The other tricky part is that there isn't much slack in the wires to the switch, so you have to be careful to not let the disconnected wires drop down where they would be difficult/impossible to retrieve. There are two white wires to connect, so be certain you are not mixing them up by comparing the wire layout to the old switch before you disconnect it! I was very relieved when it was all over and I didn't drop any screws or lose my hold on any of the 3 wires. Even more relived when I turned power back on to the stove and everything worked great! 

While the new Switch unit was replaced that did not solve the up/down issue. On further investigation inside unit below counter, a toggle (?) switch was not moving and after a little WD-40 the system -up/down- seems to be working fine. The work was completed by a professional electrician! Thanks. 

Replaced the switch 

The top switch which activates the range to raise or lower burned up. It got shorted out because my wife spilled water on the switch. I immediately went to the AppliancePartsPros parts website and ordered the replacement parts. They were expedited delivery and came the next day. It took about 30 minutes to replace the parts and it was back working. 

I tried to source the switch at 2 other supply houses. Both said the part was no longer available. Appliance Parts Pro had the part and I received it in two days.I installed it in about an hour and the unit works perfectly. 

Remove and replace 

Replaced up/down switch. 

I replaced the drive motor and the switch. Although the switch tested good, I decided to replace it anyway. This was a difficult replacement job. I had to remove the cooktop and the entire exhaust fan assembly. It wasn’t easy to lift the 60lb unit out of the marble countertop hole by myself. I had help installing it though. It took several hours to disassemble the unit and to install the motor and switch. Exact replacement for the motor and switch, which was great, helped. 35 years as an aircraft mechanic also helped. I did a lot of cleaning as it was 16 years old. Now it works like a champ!
