The Vent Switch is an OEM replacement part for Bosch range hoods. It is an electronic control device located inside the range hood that regulates the internal vent and fan functions.

Causes of a faulty vent switch can include long-term use in high-heat cooking environments, damage from accidental spills or impacts, or normal component degradation over time.

Symptoms include:

  • Failure of the fan or vents to engage during cooking
  • Variable or inconsistent fan speeds that don't adequately vent smoke
  • Electrical shorting or sparking noises from within the hood control unit

This genuine Bosch replacement part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore range hood models.

For Bosch Vent Switch (Part Number: OEM8477022)

Antonio for Model Number CVS36RS

The Thermidor cvs36rb downdraft unit continuously cycles up and down, and of course the fan does not work. I am concluding the likely culprit is the up/down switch: Part Number: AP2825671 MFG Part Number: 00189968 Bosch. I have read that it is tricky to connect the two white wires correctly. Before committing to buying to switch, I want to understand how to pull the old switch off, i.e., disconnect the three wires (one black and two white) that are strongly attached and do not disconnect easily. Do I just have to pull really hard? Or is there a latch that I have to trigger with a screw driver? Just afraid of breaking the wires. Thank you.

1 Answer

Antonio, to remove the up/down switch: 1. Raise the snorkel. 2. turn off the power to the vent hood. 3. Remove the front panel and filters from the snorkel. 4. Remove the top cap(remove the two screws from the ends of the snorkel and lift the cap off the snorkel. To remove the switch, 1. Remove the the knob from the control shaft and unclip the bezel. 2. Remove the two bracket screw from the side of the snorkel control box. 3. Lift the mounting bracket out of the snorkel control box just enough to access the switch and wire connections. 4. Remove the button and round nut then disconnect the wires( you may need a small flat blade screwdriver to pry up on the wire terminals to assist in removing the wires.) Reverse the procedure and test the unit for operation. If the problem persists, you will need to remove the venting and the front cover of the blower assembly(under the counter) and check and/or replace the 00414396 / 00414396 micro switches.

C400 for Model Number CVS45RS

The up/down switch had smoke coming out so I assume it is short in the switch. Unfortunately in order to remove the switch, you have to raise the snorkel to be able to work on it. The unit cannot be raised beyond 4-5 inches and it seems there is a locking mechanism in place, is there a way to raise the unit manually so that the snorkel can be accessed and switch be replaced? All guides assume that the unit is raised. What part # is the speed control knob, might was well replace that too when the up/down switch is being swapped.

1 Answer

C400 In order to get the snorkel up you will have to remove the side panel under the unit and manually raise the snorkel. The speed control switch would be part number 00414640.

Jim for Model Number cvs36r

Hi. As I mentioned in the last question, there are no numbers on the old switch but black is obvious where that goes and white has no number association either on the switch or the leads on the vent side. Why would the switch have the same color wire if orientation was critical! I see the diagram and can distinguish which is 2 and 3 on the switch but not on the vent side leads as they are not numbered. What if i mix them up? Thanks as I hope you can answer my question. JIm

1 Answer

Jim, The wiring diagram that I have only shows the switch having numbers on the original in which one white goes to 3 which is NO the other white will go to 2 which is NC. I can not specify which of them is the one that would go where but you could try to hook them up one way and if it does not work then reverse them.

Hi again and thanks for answering. I still need to know if it matters which white wire from switch goes to which white wire on the unit as I have no way to differentiate as I didn't mark on the old switch. I did verify continuity that you mentioned but is white wire orientation important as there are no numbers to match? I do see from wiring diagram that 2 is for NC and 3 for NO but those are not labeled on the leads coming out the top of the snorkel. Thanks, Jim

Jim, You will want to look at the wires from the push switch and it will have a 1, 2 and 3 on it and the 2 will go to the NC and the 3 white will go to NO.

Jim for Model Number CVS36R

Not sure how to add to the existing question so I copied it here with the model number that you asked for. Thermador Cook n Vent gas range CVS36R Hi. I have a Thermador downdraft unit that I believe the switch has failed. Does it matter the orientation of the white wires as there are 2 and one black? I took it out and want to put it back in to check again but not sure which white was which. Does the motor reverse when it reaches the limit? I have the wiring diagram and it shows one end switch is NO and the other is NC with relation to the white wires. An explanation would be awesome as to how the operation works. Thanks much, JIM

1 Answer

Jim, This is a microswitch that you are referring to in which you will test from the NC to COM when the switch is not pressed and should have continuity. Then you will test from NO to com when the switch is pressed and sound have continuity. From NC to COM if the switch is not pushed and the unit does not have continuity then the switch is bad.

Jim, The orientation will be correct but we will need to have the model number to see if we have a wiring diagram to be able to determine the correct orientation of the parts.

Linda for Model Number DHD965AUC

I have a Bosch downdraft, model DHD965AUC, that cycles up and down continuously until I unplug it. I had a repair person here to look at it (I was not home) and they said that I need parts 00421410 Control Board Relay and 00421379 Switch (Buttons). They said the switch is no longer available thereby making my unit useless. I am not convinced that this is my complete solution. Could it be the motor limit switches? (AP3194341 / 00421414). Currently my control panel will only illuminate the medium speed light briefly, in the up position when the up/down button is depressed. Do you have any suggestions?

1 Answer

Linda, The limit switch would most likely be the cause for the limit switch for the unit going up and down. The part number for the limit switch would be 00421414.

Stanley, Yes the you would be able to use the griddle solenoid in place of the other one but will want to make sure that there is a solenoid on the griddle side.
