How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4980747 / WE04M10004 Dryer Control Board (Mounted Assembly)

Ordered the new board assembly, installed it, and all is good again! Was very impressed by how quickly the part was delivered! Had it within three days, so there was virtually no actual down time or problems with keeping up with the laundry needs. 

Smelled a little bit of a burning smell. Unplugged the machine and tested the outlet. No heat and no smell from plug and power was good. I had no digital readout at all, so I took the control panel apart and found a transformer on the board had burnt out. I ordered a new board. When the new board arrived it was just plugged and play even though there was a little bit of a difference between the new and old boards. 

I disassembled the dryer and through troubleshooting found that only one of three heater elements on the back wall of the fryer was working (turning orange). I traced the wiring from the heater elements back to the control board assembly where I found a severe short (burn mark) on the surface of the board. I purchased a new control board assembly which solved the problem. When installing the new board, be sure to transfer the jumper assembly from the old board to the new board. Otherwise the digital display will flash "88" and the dryer won't work. 

After a professional diagnosis of the problem (which I paid for, but declined the ensuing estimated cost to repair) I ordered this board and replaced it myself. It worked perfectly and cost less than half.

Took apart the drier with help from on line video. Easy. Amazed that they are really simple and easy to work on. Removed and replaced the coil, however, the inner coil still did not heat. Changed out the thermistor, but still no inner coil. Finally, took off the board assembly for a better look and discovered the 3rd resisiter had burned. Replaced the assembly, and now I have clean undies again and a happy wife. I should mention, the printed circuit board is double, and I could not see the burned part on the inside until I took it apart and "spread" the top from the bottom. Once noted, part ordered and replaced.
