How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4343851 / WB24T10146 Surface Burner Switch

Installed new switches. Done in 20 minutes. 

Replaced part. 

Took the panel off in the back of the stove (5 screws), unscrewed the switches from the front (2 screws each), moved the wires one by one from the old defective switches to the new switches, reinstalled the new switches, reinstalled the back panel. All done in 10 minutes. Burners now work properly. 

Cut power to the range/oven. Pulled the oven unit out from the cabinets/counter enough to reach around back. Pulled the burner knob off. Removed 2 to 4 1/4" bolts (I don't remember how many) holding the steel panel that covers the controls section of the unit in the rear. Removed two phillips head screws that hold the surface burner switch in place. Visually checked the new part to make sure it was the right one. Removed each wire from the old switch and reinstalled them on the new switch one at a time. Reinstalled the new switch and knob, turned power on and tested it to see if it appeared to cycle the burner on and off at an interval that matched the knob setting. Slow cycling on low setting and fast cycling on high. Put it all back together. Works great. 

Replaced the controls for the surface burners. 

Turned the power off. Popped off the switch cover removed screws unscrewed the top panel from the back of the stove (3 screws). Took picture of the wiring before disconnecting it. Then I hooked the new switch to it. 

Remove the 4 screws on the back and 2 on the front of the stove control panel. Unscrew the old burner switch (located on the outside of the stove's control panel. Remove the wires from the back of the old burner switch and attach them to the new switch. (Suggestion: as you remove a wire from the old switch, attach it to the identical place on the new burner switch. This ensures that the wire placement is accurate and eliminates having to mark the wires.) Attach the new burner switch to the control panel Reposition the stove control panel and replace all screws. (Note: on this model, there is sheet metal on the front that needs to be properly positioned behind the lower edge of the control panel cover; I found it easier to manage this before screwing them back in.) 

The part I got was the right one and the job went good. The website showed me how to fix it and it was very EZ ty

Unplug the main power to the range, For the 12" heat element took two small screws off from the front bottom of the heat element cover. Lift the cover to get the element, used a flat head screw driver, took clips off and unplug wires, install new element. For the control knob took rear top cover and took small screws off the front of knob, and unplug wires, install new.
