The Surface Burner Switch is an OEM part for GE ranges and cooktops, designed to control the heat level of the surface burners. This switch allows users to adjust the temperature of the burners for boiling, simmering, or frying.

Causes for replacement may include electrical issues within the switch, physical damage, or wear and tear from regular use. A faulty switch can lead to cooking frustrations, potential safety hazards due to uncontrolled heat, and increased energy consumption.

Symptoms of a bad Surface Burner Switch include:

  • Burner not heating to the set level
  • Burner heating inconsistently or not at all
  • The switch feeling loose or failing to click into position

This genuine GE OEM replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Paul, with the range unplugged from the outlet, the switches (while in the off position) would need to be tested. Starting from the left-most switch WB24T10029, the wires would need to be disconnected and the switch tested from L1 to P for continuity. If there is continuity, the switch has failed. The second switch WB24T10146 and the third switch WB24T10029 would be tested the same. The dual-element switch WB24X25013 would need to be tested from S1 to S2 for continuity, and if there is continuity, the switch has failed.

John, This issue would be caused by a faulty infinite switch. To test the switch you would disconnect the wires and test from L1 to P on the switch for continuity. If there is continuity then the switch is faulty and will need replaced.

John, you should read 220-240 VAC across the H1 and H2 terminals of the switch, when it is in the on position. If you only have 124.5 volts, one of the interior contacts has failed and you'll need to replace the switch.
