Unplugged the power. Located the hidden tabs (front of my unit), pushed a flathead screwdriver into them, and raised the stove top. Our 1990's GE model has a metal support that engaged below, to keep the top lifted during maintenance. Disengaged the wire connector under the electrode. Using a needle-nose pliers carefully removed the old retaining clip, since I wanted to reuse it. Old electrode was cracked in multiple places and the metal post was corroded. Pulled it out. Put in the new one with the retaining clip, and reconnected the wire. Job took 5 minutes, one of the easiest I've done. Burner now lights better than it has in years, basically comes on instantly.
