How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2008317 / WB1X1293 Igniter Mounting Screw

Ordered a new ignighter. Watched video on how to replace ignighter. Succes! 

Screws on igniter mount were stripped, I cut and drilled them but destroyed the bake assembly tube in the process. I ordered igniter, bake assembly L shaped tube, and 2 screws from Appliance pros. Once I received the parts, the fix took less than 10 minutes. Parts were perfect. Was challenging because of the stripped screws, I recommend removing the entire bake assembly L shaped tube before attempting to unscrew the igniter from its mounts, you may not strip them that way. Other than stripped screws it was an easy fix. 

I began by replacing the ignitor which went well until the end because the igniter screws were stripped when I initially removed the igniter. Therefore the igniter would not stay in place correctly. As I had the oven disassembled I decided to replace the burner as well to help avoid any future issues with the setup. Due to the videos provided by Appliance Parts Pros, I was able to successfully replace the igniter and the burner. Now the oven is working perfectly again and I saved a ton of money doing the very easy repair on my own. Couldn't have done it without Appliance Parts Pros. I will definitely order from them again in the future! 

Removed oven door, racks, interior bottom cover and burner shield. Igniter held in place with two screws (#8 sheet metal screws in my case, not the #8 machine screws sold for this purpose). Pulled oven away from wall and removed cover on lower back to disconnect igniter wiring. Removed old igniter pulling wiring through from back. Pushed new igniter wiring through to back and reconnected igniter. Replaced rear panel, remounted igniter using one old screw from original installation and one #10 self-tapping screw (one screw and hole damaged on removal). Tested, then replaced burner shield, interior bottom cover, oven door and racks, and pushed oven back into place. 

Replaced ignitor and burner tube. 

Replaced parts with those supplied. 

Replace igniter. Very difficult to unscrew igniter from mounting bracket. I had to cut the screws with a Dremel cutting wheel, drill them out with cobalt drill bits and retap the screw holes. The GE repair person would not guarantee that he could do it and quoted a price of $400.00. I'm glad I succeeded but it was quite challenging. 

Easy fix. Took the bottom panel and back off to replace igniter. The burner assembly was very simple to replace. 

During the oven Igniter's replacement, I lost the cover plate for the broiler Igniter. Also during the oven Igniter replacement, I discovered that the last Tech to work on the Igniter had lost a screw and the Igniter was being held on by one screw. After carefully researching my problem I landed on the AppliancePartsPros.com website and found exactly what I needed. Made my order, and received my parts pretty fast. Everything is fixed and I'm assured that it's done correctly this time. 

After watching a YouTube video showing how to replace the ignitor for my GE XL44 gas stove oven, I decided it looked simple enough for me to repair. I purchased a new ignitor online, then watched several other YouTube videos before undertaking the task. It turned out to be as simple as I had hoped. Mostly I used the screwdriver-like device from my socket set to remove the nut-head screws, unscrewed the wire-caps connecting the wires to the old ignitor and then reused the caps to connect the wires to the new one. I tested it, and it worked, no complications. While I unplugged the stove before undertaking the repair, I didn't turn off the gas as one video suggested. It turned out there was no need to disconnect the gas. I spent about a half hour watching the videos, but the repair itself was less than a half hour.
