How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5788185 / MWFP Refrigerator Water Filter

We inherited this fridge when we moved into a new house last year. I have fixed several problems with the fridge thanks to this website and helpful videos. The most recent issue was the water dispenser was dispensing very little water, and the ice cubes were much smaller than what they used to be. Looked up the symptoms of our issue on this website and troubleshooted the fridge in the meantime. Turns out, the only reasonable solution seemed to be replacing the water filter. Checked the current filter on the fridge and the previous owner wrote that the filter was last changed in 2021. Ordered a new filter right away, received it within a couple of days, and installed the new filter now the water dispenses perfectly and the ice cubes are normal size! 

Ordered new 2 crisper bins, and a water filter. The filter was in new condition, however only received one bin that was shattered. Replacement bins were sent out ASAP and received in new condition. Overall satisfaction in parts and service.

The defrost heater was bad. Replaced the Defrost Heater & Bracket Asm. 

Watched the repair video and followed the steps. Easy peasy. 

After seeing the ice maker bucket was cracking in several places I ordered the new one as well as the ice maker module. It was pretty easy to replace needing only a screwdriver. The only problem I ran into was figuring out the refrigerator needed to be reset in order for the ice maker to start working. 

A local appliance contractor told me that it would cost me around $500 to replace the control board. After I inquired online on how to fix the problem. l ordered the parts and fixed the issue myself. I saved myself about $150 dollars. It was an easy do-it-yourself repair. 

After a month of buying over $500 in filters from the big stores, who did not know which filter I needed. I did research and contacted the manufacturer directly only to get the wrong filter again and was not informed it needed an "Adapter to a specific filter that they discontinued" and they wanted me to get a monthly subscription service. I came across your website surfing for the filter I needed and found it. It footnoted in the filter description it needed an adapter and offered the products as a package deal. They even called to verify the correct product and delivery. Hats off to the outstanding customer service. Great job everyone! 

Did a little research (thank The Father for YouTube); looked for the best rated supplier, and ordered the parts. Replaced the housing assembly and filter.
