How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4440756 / 3920ED4009B Cam Motor Shaft Seal

I remove the dishwasher laid it on it's backside, took off the bottom panel everything was easy to access. while I had the dishwasher out I just decided to replace the motor as well, I've noticed in the past the motor had been making some abnormal noises.Only reason I knew it was the motor making noise is because I own the same dishwasher, the repairs I just made were on my moms dishwasher, she's owns the same exact dishwasher as I do. After three years of owning my LG I had to replace the motor because it completely went out and it sounded like hers was doing the same. But as for why the drain hose cracked in half that's still a mystery... All in all it has been a decent dishwasher but for the price and the repairs that had to be made on both I won't be purchasing anymore LG dishwashers, but at least LG has made them easy to work on...!! I thank Appliance Parts Pros for offering these parts that were very reasonable priced, the availability, and the shipping options. I will definitely be using Appliance Parts Pros for all my appliance needs and I highly recommend them to anyone. 

Replaced the circulation pump and related rubber gaskets, seal and the rubber check valve. Didn't realize how noisy the unit had become until after I replaced the pump. Now we don't even hear it when it's running! Was easy to replace with basic tools, just like the videos. RM 

Watched the Video, ordered the Circulation Motor, installed in 30 min. works like a charm. The Video was very helpful Thank You.. 

Most important lesson: This model has a newer and very different chassis, the underside has a monolithic polyethylene base that is very difficult to remove. The diverter motor is accessible but just barely with an offset wrench. Also, the sprayers are quite different from the video, I could not figure out how to remove them. Note that the LG calls the diverter a Vario motor. I replaced the motor but this did not fix the issue, so I called in the pros. They confirmed that the motor was not the issue, but discovered two round metal punch-outs that were holding the internal plastic valve immobile. Removed the obstruction and the problem solved. This dishwasher includes an elaborate filter system that makes it all but impossible for objects that size to have been washed into the system, so going to file a claim with LG. 

I ended up with two sets of orders. The lower housing was cracked and I replaced that but it did not fix the issue, only a slight improvement. Through the diagnostics menu I figured out the diverter motor was defective and not switching to clean the upper rack. After changing this everything is working great. 

I went on you tube with the noisy motor issue and this site gave me the answer, so it was an easy fix. I just watched it a couple of times, no real tools involved, screwdriver, I just unplugged washer, no need to unhook water, I did buy the extra washers / gaskets recommended and you will need them so that was good. Took my time all in 45 minutes and it works great like a new machine. This would have been a $500 repair if I called someone. Thanks guys, I have now repaired my fridge, oven, and dishwasher with you and they're not that old. The new stuff today just does not last and I didn't buy the cheap ones. Dave O. 

I followed the video you posted. Detached it from the cabinet. Disconnected the water. Turned off the power. Discounted the power line, no cord. Slid it out, tipped it over, and swapped the motor. It took 5 times longer to get the dishwasher out than to swap the motor. It was an easy project to disconnect everything. It just took time to get the dishwasher loose. 

R&R the circulation pump and seals. This machine is used everyday and was 6 yrs old at time of repair. Parts were a direct fit and the videos helped with the minor intricacies. 

I had to disassemble the circulating pump housing to replace the motor. The cam motor shaft seal had failed. This led to water leaking to the motor which caused it to rust. After replacing, my dishwasher went back to being silent. The hardest part was figuring out how to access a couple of screws on the housing.
