How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4441530 / 6600JB3001C Dispenser Switch

Replaced micro switch, easy fix. Used stiff bladed putty knife to pry out bezel, then screwdriver to remove old, corroded and obviously non-functional micro switch. Electrical terminals also corroded; took a chance and just installed new one without doing anything about the corrosion. It's working so far. Here is a tip : there are 2 micro switches shown in the parts drawing, one for the ice dispensing and one for water dispensing without clear depiction as to which is which. The one with the straight blade actuator is for the ice dispenser, the hooked blade is for the water. I bought them both before I took it apart, I only wanted to do that once! 

Replaced the micro-switch that turn on ice chute. I could hear the micro-switch 'click' and wasn't sure exactly what the problem was until I pulled out the water and ice dispenser unit. The plastic facia can be removed by inserting a thin flexible spatula between the facia and the door. I used an auto trim tool (plastic). Be careful not to damage door or plastic. Start at the bottom and depress three plastic tabs while pulling on the unit. Noticed a lot of corrosion at the switch and on screws. Believe crushed ice particles end up in this area so I installed a small plastic shield (plastic bag) over the new switch. The switch is held in place by one screw and a plastic rod. Undo screw and slide switch out. Dealing with AppliancePartsPros was a pleasure. 

Removed water dispenser housing using thin point kitchen knife insert knife at lower left side of housing twist knife and grab housing with finger nails carefully pulling as you move further along housing .the rest was pretty much easy, use small star screwdriver to remove micro switch.new switch is a little different.upon replacing housing start at the bottom up the sides to the top press firmly until you hear housing snap in tight 

Ice and water would not come out from dispenser on my Kenmore elite fridge freezer. This is because.when you press the glass against the cover to get ice or water there is a micro switch that goes bad. To remove the cover, slide the bottom of the cover left or right to remove the cover. Be careful not to lose spring on the back of the cover. There is one screw that holds the microswitch in place. Remove and replace micro switch and then in reverse out the parts back in. 

Looked at YouTube Videos, got the right part (Ice micro switch) which corrodes over time so that it no longer works. The repair is easy, getting to the part and not wrecking the wire harness is the key. I gently popped the front cover off using a softer plastic part. No way I could seperate the front panel from the refrigerator due to some rework that was implemetned. I was able to rotate the cover 90 degrees and get to the part. Once removed, (one screw and CAREFULLY slide it off the post), then the hardest part, since the contacts were corroded to the switch making the hooking up the electrical wires to the switch the most difficult part. I used vinegar to remove the corrosion and enable the contacts to free up. This is a 15 min job, but take your time and be super careful, since any other broken part will make it a several day adventure.

Found the fix on youtube and ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros. Got the part the next day and installed it in about two minutes. Works perfectly. 

I examined the water intake in the back and found no issues. After some research, the suggestion was to replace the switch, due to corrosion. The unit was only two years old, but I ordered the part. The most challenging part was taking apart the front panel. I broke one of the clips, but the YouTube videos said this would be expected. After uncoupling the wires from the panel to the main unit, I decided to test before replacing the switch. After pushing the switch from the inside a few times, the pump that dispenses the water in the main unit stopped humming. I examined the part and everything appeared to be in order. Decided to not replace the switch and reassemble the unit. Everything has been fine for the past four days, but still keeping the bucket on the floor in case the unit decides to start randomly dispensing water again. 

The whole job took about 15 minutes. I used the tip of a butter knife to remove the dispenser panel from the door Started on the lower left and worked my way clockwise. It was a very simple process. The unit has 2 nearly identical micro switches. The gray one is for the ice dispenser, and the black one is for the water dispenser. My problem was a corrosion buildup on the wire contacts for the gray one. Most of my time was spent trying to slide the wire contacts off the old switch.Replacing the dispenser panel in the door was very simple.
