I managed to break my freezer handle when brining it thru the front door. The little metal socket that was welded to the inside of the tube handle completely broke off. My plan was to replace the entire handle but thru my internet search, I was not convinced I could find the right one. I was told it was discontinued, I was told multiple part numbers, nobody could tell me the color of the handle I was ordering (silver or black) AND the cost was hovering around $100.
I stumbled across this part that slides into the tube handle and essentially replaces the little metal socket that I broke off (Part Number DA61-07540A (AP5578979) replaces 3160453).
I don't think it was designed for my handle but it was under $8 so I thought I would give it a try.
It was delivered very quick. I slid it into the handle and to my surprise it lined up perfectly with the lock-screw hole. The fit was a little loose so I applied some gorilla glue to the inside of the tube, slid the part into place, clamped it on the end with a pair of vice-grips and let it dry overnight. I was careful not to get the glue close to the threads of the lock screw.
The next morning I removed the dried glue that had expanded and fitted the handle to the freezer door. Perfect fit! All I needed was the allen screw (size 10-24) because it did not come with the part. 20 cents later my project was complete and my wife couldn't be happier. Hope this helps...
