How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014596 / WPD7749401 Refrigerator Ice Auger End Cap

Bought the original equipment parts that I needed for the repair from Appliance Parts Pro. They arrived fast as promised. I did the repair myself in about 10 minutes thanks to the very informative videos provided on the website. Very pleased!! Thanks. 

I replace both bucket and auger end cap, and I haven't had any problems since....so far.

It was a tradition in my family to curse the ice maker when the thing would freeze. I mean, stop working, it always froze, which is what they do, kind of. But when I would get tired enough from having to open the freezer and dig the ice out of the bin like a common animal, I would pull the whole thing out and "repair" it. Repair to me means get it working enough to not put up with the thing for another month or two. But the constant in and out put a strain on the bucket and the edges were worn or cracked off. Finally, I had enough. I went to the brand name appliance website and looked up the parts. When I saw the price I realized I did not have enough, and we put up with it for another month. This time I did have enough and I found AppliancePartsPros.com with a much more reasonable price, and both parts were ordered, much to my wife who up to this time was angling for a new refrigerator. But when parts of the end cap were found in the ice bucket, she knew it was the last straw. The parts came in, I washed them and removed the old bucket, which literally fell apart then. And in 10 minutes the new parts were doing their job freezing up. The hardest part of the operation? Finding the correct size nut driver to remove the screws. 

I replaced the ice maker with a new one. I also replaced a cracked ice storage bin.
