How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023677 / WPW10662129 Run Capacitor

After i removed old start device combination and capicator. I installed the new parts. The compressed started working. And seems to fix the problem! 

We first replaced the main control board because the display seemed to show that there was a problem with it. It started up all the electronics on the fridge, but not the compressor or fan. We then ordered and installed a new compressor start device and capacitor since we read that a power outage can affect those too. The parts arrived the next day, but still no compressor or fan. I called Appliance Parts Pros and a very helpful technician sent me details on service tests we could perform on the fridge. The control board worked well enough for those and showed that both the compressor and fan were still working, so we deduced there might still be a problem with the new motherboard (not from Appliance Parts Pros because not in stock), and asked that company to send us another. We received and installed the new control board and everything came back as good as new! The repair itself was very easy, but diagnosing the problem when the first part was not fully functional made it a challenge and took a lot of time. Thanks for those service tests -- it made a world of difference to know what was and wasn't working! 

I looked at the "Appliance Parts Pros" site and narrowed it down to possibly 3 things. #1 was the "thermostat, # 2 was the "Starter Relay, # 3 was the Capacitor. I ordered all 3 for two reasons: 1 was this would be cheaper than an appliance repair call, 2 was because they were all simple to install if you can turn a screwdriver!! " Appliance Parts Pros" has videos showing the process for each! The only problem I had was getting the thermostat wires in the correct place since the replacement was a little different. That was easily solved by a Chat with "Appliance Parts Pros" and found out that it did not matter the position of the wires because there were only two wires and it is only a Switch. Thanks to "Appliance Parts Pros" . I am pretty sure it was the "Thermostat " causing the problem. 

Changed the starter and compactor ran like new 

Replaced the Capacitor, Condenser Fan Motor and cleaned the grills under the bottom of the frig. So far, as of 12/24/19, the frig is working better. Let's hope this repair continues to correct the prior problem. If not, I'm not sure/don't know what to do next... 

I replaced the defrost thermostat and the compressor capacitor. I really do not like working on side by sides as they are difficult cramped access to work on. But I was successful. It's likely I did not need to replace the capacitor though as I believe the fix was the defrost thermostat. 

I opened up the back panel of the fridge there was a troubleshooting sheet taped underneath I was able to troubleshoot and find out that my Starter and capacitor or were bad. 

Noticed food from the refrigerator was a little warmer than usual one evening but considered we had just been to the store and thought it was just catching up. The Next morning it was still a little warmer and checked the freezer and the ice cubes were starting to melt. We had a problem. We took everything out and thankfully had enough space in the freezer for the frozen items and it was cold outside for what was in the refrigerator, using ice packs as supplemental. I went to Appliancepartspros.com and watched and read up on potential problems and fixes. I disassembled and tested everything and found no detectable problem. Everything worked as it was supposed to but there was a lot of carbon residue around the thermostat. After a good cleaning, I put it all back together and it started working! Off went the order on a Saturday for a new thermostat, also a starter and running capacitor as they are all the same age. The parts came in five days. Which was fine as the reloaded refrigerator only stopped twice but restarted when the thermostat was tapped. The repair took 20 minutes. As always, AppliancerrPartsPros.com made it possible. 

Before I replaced the start device and capacitor I did a little investigation online and this is what I came up with, people are saying that if you’re hearing a clicking noise or your icebox not cooling at all that the starting device could be bad. One way to find out would be to take the starter device off and shake it, if it rattles it was bad. Well mine did not rattle so I took a chance and ordered the starter device and went head and replaced the capacitor also that plugs in on it and now the refrigerator is working perfectly. Now with no clicking noises and it was so easy and simple to replace this item. I really believe a kid could do it and the best part is that it saved me a few hundreds of dollars for a service technician or/and it saved me a few thousands of dollars from purchasing a new refrigerator and (appliancepartspros.com) help me do that so I give a BIG shout out to them. First I looked online to see what was suggested as to what the problem might be for my type of refrigerator. After looking at several videos I decided it could be three different issues that might be causing my problem. My first parts purchase the compressor starting relay did not fix the problem but I noticed the compressor/condenser cooling fan would not come on by itself. I would have to give it a spin before it would start spinning. I put a small fan on the floor to cool the compressor and condenser coils and let it run for a day and the refrigerator seemed to work fine and began cooling again. I then ordered the compressor/condenser cooling fan kit and installed it when it arrived. My refrigerator seems to be working fine now and has done so for 3 consecutive days without a problem.
