How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013224 / WP8558946 Control Panel

Unfortunately, this is the second time I have had to replace the control panel in this dishwasher. This is a common problem with Whirlpool dishwashers. The last panel lasted three years. I will not purchase this brand any longer. Problems with my Whirlpool refrigerator too. Anyway, I knew right away that the panel had failed again and ordered it in the afternoon. Much to my surprise it arrived the next day with the standard shipping. Impressive service. It only took about 15 minutes to install since I have done it before and the dishwasher is working fine but I'm sure it will fail again in a few years. 

Removed 4 screws, took apart the inner mechanism, removed electronic conncector and then replaced items in opposite order and screwed on new unit. 

Found that most of the plastic moldings that the control panel retaining screws threaded into had broken (obviously not a good place for plastic). Had to replace the control panel to correct the problem. The replacement was easy, the only tool needed was a Torx screwdriver. 

To make sure control panel was the only issue, I ran the alternate test cycle with panel disconnected. It worked, which verified control module was good and all I needed was a new control panel. I tried to order part through Sears, but they were overpriced and would not even tell me the part # I was ordering, which was not on their website. I ordered through Appliance Parts Pros for a much lower price, extremely helpful customer service, and received in a couple days. I swapped the control panel in 5 min, ran the test cycle through display, and everything worked perfectly. 

Ordered console but that was not the problem . Ordered control module , received it promptly and installed it. Wahoo my dishwasher is working!!! Thank you thank you . Linda
