How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6020666 / WPW10380685 Electronic Control Board (Dishwasher)

1) I verified that the thermal switch (120 AC input) to the controller was good (using a meter). 2) I then ordered a replacement controller and waited for it to arrive. I added next day shipping to keep the newly appointed dishwashing staff (me, my wife and kids) from revolting. 3) It arrived and I replaced the controller. That simple (the door re-assembly did take three hands). Dishwasher was back in operation (much rejoicing - yea). 

I took apart the water/debris discharge and checked for issues causing excess pump motor amperage draw(I recommend doing this first) that would cause shut down.Some debris was present. This did not solve the problem though. I checked the system for fault codes and a code 6-1 (control unit) was present.I replaced the electronic control board and the dishwasher now functions normally. The Board is not difficult to replace. You will need a T-15 torx and a little care as to not damage the stainless. I am an auto mechanic so I deal with annoying things like this all day.There is a video on YouTube showing this procedure. Good luck everyone. Ron 

Replaced the control board. It was really simple. I was worried at first since the manufacturer updated the control board with a new model/number. The new board had extra plugs/outlets on it, so I just ignored them. It runs perfectly so you correctly identified the replacement board. 

Replace control panel and main control board. 

Took apart front panel while taking pictures of the connections and removed old board and replaced with new and it works fine now. 

Replaced the Electronic Control Board and Wiring Harness. 

Upon inspection, I noticed the upper left corner of the control board was burnt black from a failed component. A test of the thermal fuse showed it was bad as well which I expected since it seemed to have done its job. I replaced the board and the fuse to fix the issue. I did use the video for the control board replacement which was very helpful. The guy who did the video did a great job! For the fuse part, I just removed the new fuse from the attached wires and put it in place of the old fuse in my machine. My fuse was hard-wired from the control board area to underneath the dishwasher so installation was a little different (easier actually) on my machine. The hardest part was getting the door panel back on correctly, but the video certainly helped. 

Just a T-15 torx driver and 25 mins. of my time. 

I replaced both the control board and the control panel. 

Put in a new control board.
