How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010824 / WP74003019 Oven Bake Element

Replaced the element. Appliance Parts Pros site is great for finding parts for older (21 years) ranges. 

It was Thanksgiving Evening and the new heating element I ordered arrived! I was thrilled because I would be cooking all the next day and a properly working oven would make it go much better. I had watched the video and it looked simple enough. I removed the old element, one side came out easy the other did not. As it turned out the power wire was laying on a portion of the element and it had melted to it. Despair set in as I was having a house full of guests and now it ;looked like no oven. So here we were two upset women looking at a black hole in our oven wondering what to do. after much effort we removed the oven from the counter (it was a built in) and opened up the back. The burnt wire was obvious. A quick trip to Lowe's, well not so quick, we had to read a lot of wire to find one of the correct gage and rated for internal appliance wiring and the right connectors along with a lesson on how to use shrink wrap and crimps. We returned home made and installed the new wire and replaced all the parts with the new element and it worked perfectly. So Thanksgiving dinner was saved from what looked like might be take out Chinese! 

Plug and play. Piece of cake. 

Ordered part, took old one out, plugged new one in. Took less than 5 minutes. 

I normally don't respond to "surveys" however my entire experience with AppliancePartsPro was so good (website, ordering, receiving parts when promised, helpful video) I felt compelled to take the time to respond. I simply removed two screws, removed two electric connectors (making certain not to let oven wiring drop behind the opening in the oven per the video) removed defective element, confirmed connector type (per ordering instructions), and ordered the correct part. When the replacement part arrived 2 days later I reversed the procedure to install the part and tested the oven which functioned correctly. 

Replaced element, with new one from your site. Took less than 5 mins! 

I went to the local Sears Parts store at 11am on Monday...they didn't have a replacement in stock. They offered to order it for $58, with delivery a week later. While standing at the counter, I used my phone to google for the part, and I found the Appliance Parts Pros website. They offered the same OEM (Whirlpool) part for $48.11 (incl. shipping), and their site claimed a 1.7 day average delivery time. I ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros on the spot, and said goodbye to the Sears salesperson. It was delivered by Fedex at 1:15pm Tuesday...26 and a quarter hours after being ordered. The part was new in perfect condition. I installed it and made a batch of brownies to celebrate. 

Called the repairman and left a message. Meanwhile I looked up the part myself. Watched the repair video twice. Went and removed the old element, then ordered the new element. Called the repairman and cancelled. Two days later, my element arrived and I installed it. I have never done this before in my life. 

Removed old element by removing 2 screws and pulled element out.. far enough to unplug 2 terminals and then instralled new element. Went very well' Only problem was that Fed-X delivered it to the wrong address so my neighbor brought it over. 

Plugged in new one.
