How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009347 / WP4391960 Dryer Heating Element

Whirlpool gas dryer purchased in 1979 lost heat in 2019 checked AppliancePartsPros for problem and replaced heating element and thermal fuse, dryer works like new. The video's are very helpful and take the guesswork out of the job. The repair was very simple and easy. Best to leave wires connected to old parts then install new part and replace wires from old to new so you do not mix them up. Thanks AppliancePartspros you saved me $$$$ and I still have my vintage dryer. Also had to open top to get to one screw, a putty knife works very well on releasing clips holding top on dryer. 

Replaced heating element 

Replaced the heating element, all good. This is a Whirlpool dryer that I bought 30 years ago when I got married. I have changed the door switch striker and now the heating element. Whirlpool appliances have always been my favorite. Great quality for over 30 years! 

Replaced fuse and heating element. 

Checked thermal fuse and bi-metal switch for OPEN circuit. Found open circuit on the heating element. Removed and verified break-in element wire. Removed the heating element and replaced 

Unit not heating. Checked element terminals for continuity at heater box, none. Removed heater box, then the element and discovered break in the element. Cross-referenced part at Appliance Parts Pros. Good price!! Ordered 2-day delivery on a Friday. Was expecting it on the following Monday due to the weekend. Shipped Fed Ex. Received the next day and was so happy to get it on a weekend day. Immediately installed it. The only issue was a modification of the connectors at the element terminal ends. I had the wire ends in my shop. No problems. Element fits perfectly in the box. Whirlpool did a good job on the design of the replacement element. The most difficult part of the re-install was getting the heater box fastening nut started in its hole which is up high and out of sight near the top of the unit. Took less than 1 hr to start to finish. Thanks, Appliance Parts Pros. Good service. 

Well, not fixed yet. Replaced the heating element - did not work. Noticed during replacement the thermostat was fried. Now need a thermostat. My bad :) 

Replaced the heater 

I replaced the dryer thermal fuse and dryer heating element by watching the videos posted by appliance parts pros. Replacing the thermal fuse was incredibly easy. However, replacing the dryer heating element was a bit more difficult. The part that holds the heating element is not easily removable and it is set at an angle that makes taking the dryer heating element and putting it back in very difficult. With a good bit of force, i was able to put the new heating element into the holder, and now the dryer works perfectly!
