Whirlpool Dryer Heating Element

After 22 years my Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer stopped getting hot. So I went ahead and reviewed the videos and figured I could repair it myself. I am not an electrician, just a housewife with limited funds and a desire to DIY. First ran the built-in diagnostic tests. Got error code indicating that the inlet thermistor was open. Removed lower access panel and did continuity checks on the inlet thermistor, thermal cutoff and heating element. Even doing these checks is very difficult on this model due to the location of these parts and the limited access through the so-called access panel. Replaced the heating element, which came complete with the two thermostats, wiring harness, and the mounting plate. Installed the new element unit, plugged in the dryer and tested to be sure the new element worked. Read more

After watching several u tube videos I borrowed a friends multi meter and tested element , high level thermostat and the thermistor. Ordered parts from applianceparts pro , at a significant lower price than the local parts warehouses around my area!! Dryer is working great! Read more

Used multimeter to diagnose no continuity through heating element. Took out element and found underwire from a bra (C-cup I think...) had shorted it and caused a break. Replaced heating element and ... still no heat. Found that one of the fuses had no continuity also. Replaced the fuse and everything working fine. Read more
