How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6030094 / W10872845 Dishwasher Pump Filter Assembly

Ordered a new screen and filter. While waiting for arrival, removed wax covered dishes. Carefully removed wax filled filter and screen cover. Stuffed paper towels in hole to absorb water and prevent wax from entering pump. Prayed ????wax had not entered pump. With plastic knife removed visible wax. Wiped out with paper towels. Used entire roll. Used hair dryer to melt remaining wax and wiped every inch of racks, wheels, glides, silverware holder, seal, floor and so forth. Oh yes I did. At 1:30 AM...thought..."hot soapy water might melt that wax". Got out of bed. Boiled a large pot of water and squirted in dish soap. Explained to husband ??why it needed to be done right then. Scrapped clumps of wax out of filter. With tongs dipped in boiling suds. Walla! It worked. Dipped screen and glass dishes. All clean. Threw plastics away. Cooked a bowl of ramen. Ate my snack, returned to bed. Next day, new filter and screen arrived! ?? Installed. Put in soap packet. Ran empty. Checked new filter and screen. Wax ??. Replaced with old filter (cleaned) and screen. New soap packet, ran empty. Checked screen. Pristine! ?? Repair a success. Thanks for the quick shipping. Hope this helps anyone who decides to wash candles in their dishwasher. 

Despite the instruction booklet on cleaning the filter cup, neither my husband nor I, have ever been able to get the filter cup completely clean. We've tried scrubbing with various brushes (even a tooth brush) & even sitting it in a hot bath of denture tablets. All to no avail. Eventually it caused our Dishwasher to flood our wooden floor, due to being unclean. It also gave me the "willies" to have that "never clean" filter sitting IN my dishwasher. When I saw that they were now making a slightly different replacement part (different number but 100% compatible) I decided to get a new one. I have slight hopes that it will be easier to clean, when the time comes. If not, at least there will be a brief period when my dishes' rinse water, really will be clean, since the filter cup will be new. It was very easy to simply twist the old one out & then simply twist the new one back in place. (If this one does not clean any better, it will be the only time, I EVER buy a dishwasher with a filter cup LIKE this.) The dishwasher was labled as Kenmore Elite, but the serial numbers indicate it was made by Whirlpool. 

Pull them out. Replaced with new ones. 

Followed the Appliance Parts Pros video and it took me about an hour from start to finish. I felt like the job was easy to accomplish. 

New parts 

Both the filter & screen were completely clogged with old, crusty, food & dry dish detergent. Parts were delivered within 48 hours and were exactly what I needed. 

I called Appliance Parts Pros and spoke with Michelle. She was extremely helpful found the parts I needed ordered them for me and I received them in two days. She also provided me a link that explain to me how to remove the screen. It probably took me all of 10-15 minutes and now my dishwasher is cleaning like new again. 

I changed the filter 

As the dishwasher was now seven years old I thought I’d look at replacing it with a new one. A new one was running $1000 and due to Covid no one even had them. I did like this particular model so I bought a new drain motor and while I was at it the drain filter. They arrived the next day and the repair honestly took at most a half hour. Cleaned out some debris, installed the new parts and the dishwasher was working just like new. Definitely try to fix your appliance before you replace it! Saved $900 

Repair was easy. Just slotted the new parts in and they fit and worked fine,
