How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011024 / WP74008014 Oven Door Hinge

Installed new hinges with hope this would solve problem. It did not and I followed someone elses suggest of buying some magnets. They worked perfect for $3.99. Door pulls shut and li8ght stays off. Convection works much better. 

The door of our Jenn-air wall oven would not fully close. The light would stay on, and we found the oven temp was inconsistent. To fix it, you will need these new hinges and probably hinge receptacle assemblies (a different part - number 74008015). You may get lucky and be able to fix your door with just new hinges, so maybe get the hinges first, and see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't, then be prepared to order the receptacles. Installing the hinges is easy. After you pull the door off the oven, put it on a flat surface and take the inside face off. You will need some screwdrivers to remove the screws. Be careful reinstalling the screws if you have not worked with sheet metal before. It is easy to over-tighten the screws and strip the treads. Just tighten them firmly, but don't go crazy. Once you see the old hinges you will see why the new part is better--the spring is much longer and stronger. The part is shipped with a small metal pin about 1/4 inch long that jams the hinges partway open. This makes it easier to hang the door. After you hang the door on the oven, you will need to remove these pins with pliers, or else the door won't fully close. If you ever have to pull the door off again, you will need to reinstall these pins, or else use a 6 penny nail to jam the door open. One other point: these hinges are strong, so be careful working with them so you don't jam or pinch your fingers. 

It took about 15 minutes. Very easy. I am pretty decent with tools - by no mean a professional but I am comfortable with a drill and a saw and a hammer. Anyway, I followed the directions in the Jennair manual, which I found online. Only thing they don't say is that you need to remove the two silver plates that cover the hinge opening before you pull out the door. Here was step by step: ~ Open the oven door ~ remove the two silver plates that are on the oven frame and keep the hinges from falling out (1 screw each) ~ gently lift the door out ~ lay the door on a flat surface exterior side facing down. Ideally, use a table so the oven handle can hang off the side of the table, allowing the door to lie flat. ~ remove 3 screws on top of door and two on bottom ~ pop off the frame (easy - comes right off) ~ There is a black steel metal plate running along the base of the oven. It has two additional screws that go into the hinges. Remove it. ~ you can now replace the hinges. Gently slip them out. Slip the new ones back in. ~ Reverse everything. ~ one thing I didn't realize immediately is that the new hinges have small steel "bolts" (not really bolts because they don't have threads, but i forget the term for them) that keep the door from closing all the way. Remove them. total time was 15-20 minutes. 

Very simple to remove and replace the hinges. there is a video online if you need help. 

Ordered a pair and replaced old with new. Not a master handyman but repair was done perfectly in under 15 minutes. 

I googled the brand and found that this was a common problem. My husband wanted to call the appliance guy but I found a youtube video that showed just what to do and I did it myself to the surprise of my husband. Saved the cost of the appliance guy. 

The seal was super easy, no need to disassemble the door. Just push the small pins in and when you get to the ends where you tuck into the door, just take a chopstick or small wooden spoon handle and push in to the two holes, very simple. The hinges required the door to be removed completely. This is easily done but they can be heavy, our are pretty hefty. Open the door, remove the brackets that cover the top of the hinge, raise the door to the semi open position and lift straight up. From there, disassemble the door, replace hinges (you do not need directions as everything is self explanatory. Replace hinges and put the door back in the same way you removed it. Remember, the new hinges have little safety pins so you need to pull those out or the door wont shut completely. But do not remove them until you have the door back in the oven! 

Purchased two new hinges - removed the old and replaced with the new. In a half hour, I had it working like new again!
