How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012094 / WP8206419 Microwave Top Interlock Support

I expected to have instructions with the package. However, Youtube could help. 

Replaced upper interlock door switch and fuse. The trickiest and most time consuming part is disconnecting and reconnecting the various connectors from the control board, and removing the plastic cover to access the upper support interlock. I found it helpful to take pictures with my phone to record the connections. The switch to the left of the upper interlock support was literally fried, and the fuse blown. Entire repair process for me took a little less than two hours, but overall still worth the effort. 

Ordered upper and lower interlocks. Ordered one upper micro switch and order one lower micro switch. Discovered there were 2 upper switches when I disassembled. Only replaced the lower interlock and switch to fix problem. 

Googled the problem and found it could be a door switch. I unplugged the microwave, removed the two screws holding the upper section in place, the control panel tips out after removing a screw and lifting it slightly, then disconnect the wires after taking pictures with my phone for reference for correct replacement. Next remove a small metal plate above the control panel to access the upper screw holding a black plastic shield behind the control panel. There is a screw on the bottom of the shield, also. I then took photos of the door switches for wiring and mounting reference. I removed the two torx screws holding the switch supports and checked the 3 door switches and found one broken switch. It was quite obvious, the button on the bottom of the switch would move freely in and out, indicating a broken internal spring. I ordered a new $4 switch and replaced it along with the plastic support. The old support broke when I removed the old switch. Put everything back together and the microwave worked fine. Fixed for less than $20 and to think we ready to go buy a new one at $300 or more. Taking photos before disassembling parts is a must for re installation. Appliance Parts Pros is great to work with. Internet research and watched online videos that helped with ordering parts and the repair.

Looked on cwd’s that came inside top cover and determined the intermediate switch may be the issue since the dish and lite are controlled by the same switch. Ordered a switch and new holder as I broke the holder removing the switch taking it apart. Parts cost me $27 with shipping and I got them in 2 days. The switch fixed the problem. The switch cost $13. Had I not broken the holder the repair would have cost around $15. I tried to order the switch from Whirlpool but they don't sell the parts to the public. AppliancePartsPros.com saved me a possible service call of a few $100 or a replacement unit for much more all for a simple micro switch that cost me around $15 to fix. Just consider that for a moment. We are so glad to have our microwave back and the best part is we didn't have the expense of having to replace it. 

Replaced both upper and lower interlocks. As long as you have it open might as well. Very easy. 

I checked continuity in door switches and found one without continuity so I replaced the faulty switch and the microwave is working.
