How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013024 / WP8539324 Dishwasher Upper Spray Arm Mount

Replaced the spray arm mount. 

Ordered the Spray Arm Kit but it did not have an upper basket attachment mount. Looked on site and saw a Whirlpool part that looked similar. From the Picture on site saw it was a match except in grey color. Ordered it. Except for the screw attaching the spray arm to the water tube, all was a snap-on replacement. Took 5 minutes. 

Ordered a replacement part from AppliancePartsPros.com. It was received in just a few days. The part was not the same but guaranteed to work as a replacement. Easy (or so I thought) to install but the spray arm would not rotate. Watched the installation video. Picked up that it was being installed in the video 180 degrees different than I thought. Reinstalled the part right and the spray arm rotated freely. There was no mention that the clips go to the back or front of the basket but if you watch the video closely enough you can see the right way to install. Works great once installed right. 

The repair video gave me an idea as to how to perform this repair. It was quite accurate. With that help, I ordered the part in the morning and it was in my hands the next day. That was FAST. The only modification to the repair process was my use of some silicon RTV to fill the cavity in this part so as not to trap water. The part is hollow and open at the top and doesn't have a drain hole. 

I replaced the upper arm support and the spray arm and the supply tube. Replacing the parts was easy. I only needed a Phillips screwdriver not a 5/16” nut driver as mentioned in the video. I pre-screwed the screw into the upper spray arm mount to have the groves already there when I installed the new spray arm. This made it easier when screwing it up from the bottom. The supply tube did not line up with the water supply port at the back of the dishwasher, but after one quick rinse cycle with hot water, it helped mold it to a better fit. Be sure you hang the water supply tube support in the right direction so the arm can spin freely. I had to take it off and turn it around because I didn’t know it made a difference as to which way it hung. 

Where the plastic component snapped, there was not enough material at the break line to superglue it back together. I found AppliancePartsPros.com online and with only the make of the 10-year-old dishwasher available (Whirlpool), I was able to find a replacement part that was similar. I watched an accompanying video and it clarified the revised part looked different because it no longer required a second screw to secure the mount to the upper tray. The price for the replacement part was so reasonable and knowing if this happened once it could happen again (that genius Murphy & his law), I ordered an extra one. The shipping was amazingly fast. The new and definitely improved part snapped right into place and the dishwasher is back in business.

Ordered the new mount snapped it on put the sprayer arm back and was done. 

I was able to order the correct part and install it very easily by viewing the help video and getting serial number from dishwasher.
