How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023628 / WPW10655367 Drip Pan (Refrigerator)

New drip pan 

Ordered new plastic tray from appliancepartspros. 

I was able to trace my water leak back to a crack in the drip pan. I thought, in order to patch the leak until my parts arrive, I would take the drip pan out and tape the crack. When I was trying to take it out, I cracked the shroud. So I called AppliancePartsPros.com and they were able to walk me through a plan of action and add the shroud to my order. Once the parts came I gave it another try with a friend of mine. Not sure I could have done it alone, but we were able to pull the old shroud and drip pan and replace without any damage to the new parts. This is a very tricky part to replace due to the tight fit of the shroud to the drip pan. All I can say is be patient, take the fan and motor off of the shroud and work the shroud out of there. It is fit like it is not meant to be removed. 

Examine the rear of the fridge, found drip pan was cracked. Looked like a hard time getting the old one out. Used gorilla glue to fix the rear and left front cracks. Next time it defrosted, had a leak in the right front corner. Ordered new drip pan, looked how it was installed on your video. Had a tough time removing the fan assembly, but got it done. Its no wonder how or why it cracked, its too tight to get the fan assembly in there without forcibly getting it in there. 

Ordered the new one, used an appliance parts pros video to help me replace it. 

Realized the pan was cracked when we moved the fridge. Had been leaking for years and the subfloor was gone so was obvious. Watched the video on the website. Ordered the Drip Pan and it arrived the next day. Successful install based on video Fridge back up and running. Thanks 

The video made it possible for me to accomplish this task myself, though I wish it included the footage showing the struggle that the technician had to go through to get the fan housing in and out. Trying to do that without breaking it was very challenging. I coated the exterior of the fan assembly with petroleum jelly to help me maneuver it. In addition to screwdriver and nut driver I also needed gloves, a shop light, padding to lay on, a vacuum, and brush. I also used a file on one section of the side of the drip pan to give me an extra 1/8 inch or so of room to maneuver the fan housing. The spot I filed is visible in the video at 6:13 in the lower right corner, just above the word "Appliance." Tricky job, but the video helped a lot. 

Ordered a new drip pan from Appliance Parts Pros.com, received the pan timely and in new condition. Watched the video posted on the website that instructed me on how to remove and replace the pan. The video lacked some vital information on how to remove the pan and replace it. The video said to play with the fan unit and it will come out and go back in, but it wasn't that easy.
