How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013682 / WP9703438 Retaining Clip

Replace the support wheels for the drum the belt and the idler pulley. 

Replaced both drum support rollers and axles. Also went ahead and replaced dryer drum belt. Had to reinstall old dryer drum belt. I did not check well enough alignment of new belt and it got shredded within 10 minutes of dryer running. Lesson learned -- double / triple check belt alignment and check to be sure it is not twisted -- must be properly installed on drum, motor pulley and tensioner roller. Once the old belt was reinstalled , everything working perfectly. Nice and quiet now. 

Installed a new blower wheel assembly. 

Disassembled the dryer and inspected it…Found the blower wheel broken and had been rubbing on the plastic housing. Clean out housing and vent, and replaced the wheel. Inspected the felt seal on the drum, it was replaced 2 years ago when I replaced the rollers and belt. Inspected burner and cleaned out lint and debris. Before installing the door, checked the operation and all is good, installed door. 

I took it apart and checked the website for possible problems and inspected the parts most likely to fail. I found the drum roller bearings were rough and the blower wheel was wobbling on the shaft after inspecting the belt. I decided to replace it as well. after all, it is 35 years old and things are due wear plus it needed a severe cleaning and a new lint filter. With all the parts replaced and put back together it was very quiet and drying time was reduced it works as well as new. It was an easy job with the video's you posted and I was confident in being able to do it. Thanks 

I replaced all the wheels. The two Drum Support Wheels (including the shafts) and the Tension Pulley. 

First I went to your website to find the parts diagram of my dryer. I used the feature you offer of the list of problems and the possible solution by percentage. I had an idea what was wrong and it was high on your list. I then went into the dryer and confirmed the blower wheel was broken. I watched the video and it was very easy to replace so I ordered the part and when it came in I installed it that night. 

I replaced the motor and a belt. 

I have a 33 year old dryer that was making some noise. After taking off the back access plate and confirming that the drum rollers needed replaced, I ordered them from Appliance Part Pros. I have used parts purchased elsewhere before, but you don't know if you are going to get the correct parts and quality all the time. After receiving the new rollers, axles, and retaining clips, I swapped them out for the old ones. The dryer is running so quiet now, you can hardly hear it even when you are in the laundry room. With the price and sketchy availability of new appliances, keeping your old ones in top working condition is more important than ever. 

From reading the possible causes on the site, and reading others who experienced similar symptoms, I decided to replace the drive motor as it was 22 years old and we have 7 kids. So, most likely we got 66 years of real use out of it :-). The repair video was very helpful and end-to-end my son and I completed the job in 2 hours (most of the time taking the dryer apart, cleaning it and putting it back together again. The dryer sounds like new and is running great! I recommend buying two retaining clips as they are a bit challenging to get off and may end up bending.
