How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5787784 / W10613606 Compressor Start Relay

Ordered a new one. 

Used a 1/4 not wrench to take off back panel of ref . Then on left side of compressor I took off compressor start unit with flat screw driver popped back on new one installed back panel on and plugged in ref and it worked great best it ever worked 

I went to your website to explore possible solutions. Your diagnostic tools are very user-friendly and I was able to pinpoint the problem and view a short video on how to replace the part. After that, I ordered the suggested part [in stock] and it arrived in a few days. 

I found youtube videos troubleshooting the problem and describing my symptoms as likely being a failed compressor relay. Found the right part. Ordered it and selected standard shipping since they said 90% arrived in two days. That was true for me. Mine arrived in two days. The replacement was easy and it solved the problem. Frig still running after four days. Another issue I discovered at the same time was dirt and dust on coils under the refrigerator. After messing around with it for an evening, I got an appliance brush from a retail store the next day. Cleaned them up and worked like a champ. Highly recommend this too. 

Installed a new compressor start relay and solenoid. 

Both the frig and freezer stopped cooling on my 13-year-old side-by-side unit. Both sides were room temperature and I could hear the fan running so I knew it was the fan or fan motor. I then checked the relay because I couldn't hear the compressor turning on. Turns out the relay was bad so the compressor never started. The relay was noticeably bad because it rattled when you shook it and there was a spot where it melted. Replaced the relay and it started running again! Side note, I have this frig in my garage and noticed it all of a sudden started tripping my GFCI for some reason. I used an extension cord to get around the issue to soften the signal that was tripping it but I'm guessing this was the first sign that the relay was going out. 

Replaced compressor start device 

Parts not needed ..all { parts [ originals ] in working order ... did NOT replace new parts for " working " original parts ... apparently a broken wire .... somewhere in harness ... possibly / probably in insulation .............. NOT worth complete disassembly to find ... I will instead install a TIMER between unit and power source to AUTOMATICALLY let unit " rest " without power 1.5 hours every night ... then AUTOMATICALLY re-power up and return to WORK mode. 

At first I thought about how difficult it would be to fix it myself,,,,first I had to identify the problem and I found easily on the web,,,that it was probably the compressor start device,,,that it was a common problem. I found Appliance Parts Pros,,again on the web and it had a video explaining how to replace the part. My only concern was getting the refrigerator to roll forward from the wall. Once I got the front rollers down I was able to roll the unit out by myself. Once out I gained access to the back and it took me about 30 minutes to replace the part following directions from the video. It took a few days for the part to arrive but I'm happy with the result and I saved myself a service fee! 

Purchased new starter plugged it in to the compressor and it worked perfectly. The AppliancePartsPros videos made understanding the install very easy. If it wasn't for the videos I would not have known how to troubleshoot. Because of the videos I made the purchase.
