How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6018219 / WPW10270254 Top Burner Infinite Switch (Hiper)

I purchased a replaced switch and installed it in the cook-top. 

I replaced the switch and the knob using only a screwdriver type handheld multi-tool. My friend had called me on 24 December because his cooktop was tripping the breaker. Since I was out of town and could not get over there, he came over to my house to use my cooktop and all went well. Just before New Year’s Day 2020 I went over and diagnosed the problem. Then over the next couple of days discovered appliance parts pros and ordered the part that was delivered Jan 10. I went over and replaced the switch, replaced the knob and all went well. 

Replaced the high-speed Infinite Switch that shorted out and burnt.
