How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6278041 / W11120795 Infinite Switch Top Burner Control Switch

Went to You Tube and watched a video and it made it simple because no directions came with parts. Video told how to take apart and exactly how to put it together with new part. Very easy with knowledge before starting. We didn’t even know the secret to getting top off or how the old and new parts were marked exactly the same just in different places. Watch this and you will see how simple. https://youtu.be/vm3L95t2ejo On replacing the terminal block....The new screws had to be rethreaded into stainsteel, it was a self tapping screw but this was the hardest part on replacing them. 

Removed cover and replaced swtch 

Because of the excellent information on AppliancePartsPros I selected a new burner control that had 2 flats on the knob shaft instead of the usual one. It fit the old knob perfectly. After turning off the power, I undid 4 screws, I dropped the front panel to access the back side of the burner control. Swapped the spade lugs on the electrical wires from the old control to the new one and had the whole job done in 15 minutes. U-tube provided the needed video on how to remove the Jenn-Air front panel. 

Replaced switch on cooktop 

Replaced the burner on the one that wouldn’t turn on and replaced the thermostat on the one that couldn’t be adjusted. 

Got a new switch. 

Ordered parts. Surprise! They came within two days! Great service. I reviewed their videos and replaced the switches. There were six lugs on the switches but only five wires. After going on line to the appliance parts pros, I found the answer in their Q and A section. One lug was a double! I tried the first switch and stood back. It worked! The second was done in less than five minutes and I’m enjoying the results now. Thank you! I give you a ten for your fast service, easy instructions and great prices. 

Purchased replacement part from Appliancepartspros.com. Installed it, works perfectly. 

Installed a new infinite switch. There may be extra terminals. Just pay attention to which wire goes to which terminal.
