How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008682 / WP35001092 Dryer Thermostat

15 yr old Maytag Neptune just stopped heating and initially, my first instinct was to spend $1k on the latest but decided to repair the unit. Ordered the parts with recommendations from AppliancePartsPros. I have all the parts needed. Took just under an hour to install the parts and the dryer runs like new. On to the next problem. 

I watched the very, very helpful video that was available. It was so very helpful and made the job very easy. It did take me a little bit because this was my first time doing this but I got it within the hour, so I'm very proud of myself and the best part is that I saved about $300.00 dollars. Found YouTube video. Took dryer apart. Removed heating element assembly. Used multimeter to determine bad parts. Ordered the thermister and thermostat from AppliancePartsPros.com Arrived in two days. Replaced parts. Reassembled dryer. Success! 

I installed the heating element and thermostat 

I initially decided to replace the flame sensor (most common failure), the high cut-off thermostat, the thermistor & moisture sensor (since the auto cycle didn’t seem to work at all), and the igniter (after I may have damaged it while cleaning the heat chamber). I added the remaining thermostat since everything else was being replaced. This did NOT fix my problem. After several google searches, I came across a post that described weak gas valve coils that would work for several cycles, then would not be strong enough to open the valve. This sounded exactly like my situation, so I ordered the coils only ($18 versus $260 for the entire valve assembly). This fixed my problem. The thermistor and moisture sensor were probably good replacements since the auto cycle works fine again. 

I wrote down my model number, watched a video, ordered the parts, parts came quickly, installed the parts (at 4am before leaving for work!). Dryer back up and running! Shazam! 

This dryer is 15 years old. It has never had anything done to it. So my husband replaced several parts that he thought could possibly be the problem.. It works Great now !! It heats up faster and hotter than it ever did ! We saved alot of money by ordering parts online, and doing it himself.

Thermal fuse, and while tore apart decided to replace t-stat although it seemed ok 

I'm no way qualified to fix a dryer. There were 3 possibilities for the problem. I decided to purchase all 3 parts. (Approx $130). Received parts quickly. Now the fun part. Before I began set my chromebook next to me and watched the video on the website on how to repair. The video was so detailed, I was able to complete the entire parts replacement. Although I had to basically tear apart the dryer, I did it like a pro. Not sure which part was broken, but it was one of the 3 I bought. Dryer works perfectly. Thank you appliance parts pro, I'm sure had I called and had a service company, it would had been over $750. --Avery
