How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013380 / WP8566184 Dryer Timer

I looked up my dryer model number and ordered the timer. It came very quickly. The video gave me tips on how to change it. I changed it and it works fine now. It was not that hard.

We were able to replace it and get the dryer working in about 30 min. 

The timer had a dead spot where the dryer would not run. The buzzer would sound after about five minutes, resulting in wet cloths. Crazy thing was, It would dry cloths on “Timed Settings” and other places on the dial, but where we always used it was in “Energy Preferred “, it would run the five minutes, and then sound the buzzer as if they cloths were done. The dial would move just a little bit. Replaced the timer. 

Turn off the main power, remove the control panel backing, remove the timer, disconnect wires one at a time as you reconnect them to the new timer using screw driver and needle nose plyer. Put back the timer and the backing. The dryer is fixed. 

Replaced timer. It literally took longer to move the dryer and vacuum behind it than to execute the repair. It did take me an additional 30 min. to take the timer apart. I wanted to see if it was repairable, but alas, turns out the plastic cams down after 15 years. 

Changed out the timer. 

Very simple fix. I removed the back panel, unplugged the old timer, plugged in the new timer, and replaced the panel.
