How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007988 / WP33002676 Timer, Electronic (Dryer)

Thought I had a timer problem on the dryer. Went online to look for information about the dryer and for replacement parts. Found several web sites,watch a video on replacing the part. Ordered the necessary part on the weekend. Got a confirmation that the part was shipped on Monday. It was delivered on Wednesday and installed that night; Repair took about 30 minutes. Had some issues initially with unplugging the wires from the old timer. Used a flat head screwdriver needle nose pliers to and then everything sent smoothly. Was able to get the piled up laundry done right away. The dryer worked perfectly on the various settings. 

Reading the information of other questions, and some common sense, told me I had a faulty Timer. Finding the right one was easy on the site. Replacing it took 10 minutes. Much better than the - $550 and it might not fix the problem - repair quote; much much better than replacing the dryer. 

Replaced timer. 

UNPLUG YOUR MACHINE: 1) Remove the back cover behind the timer using a nut driver 2) Pull straight out on the timer knob to remove it from the timer stem 3) pay attention to how the timer is positioned so you know how the new one will go in, then remove the screws holding the timer in place. 4) Remove each wire from the old timer and place it on the new timer before removing the next one. This will help prevent crossing the wires to the wrong terminal 5) Place the new timer into the same position and orientation as the old one. 6) replace the screws that secure the timer 7) Replace the knob on the timer stem 8) Replace the back cover. 9) Plug the machine in. YOU'RE DONE 

Replaced the dryer timer assembly. Wish Whirlpool would sell just the black box separate from the electrical timer motor because it would be much cheaper, as the Electrical timer is fine. The hardest part of the repair is deciphering the circuit diagram which was taped to the inside of the controls panel and eliminating the other components as the possible trouble.
