Albert C Richmond , KY August 11, 2017 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer A8740 Maytag Washer A8740: Bad lid switch. How to replace Lid Switch Assembly. Wasn't sure it was the lid switch because I could still hear the normal click when I open and closed the lid of the washer. Popped the cover (four Phillips head screws) and started checking things with a multi-meter (schematic was taped to the inside of the compartment). The fuse was good and it looked like the cover open switch was good too. After studying the schematic a little closer I realized that there were two switches on the card, cover open and "check". It was the "check" switch that was bad. Just the switch was available for a little less $ but as everything was 20+ years old so I ordered the whole assembly. I was a little worried about adjusting things as the whole assembly is able to slide back and forth to match up with the mechanical linkage, but I put everything back in the same position as before and it worked like a charm! Would be able to do the repair in much less time the second time around. 6 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours
