Robert H Enumclaw , WA December 02, 2021 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT6910AAL Failed lid switch. Our washing machine is an old but very good Maytag. We took the front off the washer to inspect the machinery and found that a mouse had carried in hundreds of dog food kibbles, so after cleaning them all out and tightening the belts, the machine still did not work. We called a repairman who told us that the timer was faulty and was no longer available so we would need a new machine. Not wanting to replace the machine and buy a new dryer to match, we looked at your failure checklist which indicated a failed lid switch. As a last effort we ordered the block containing the switch and the fuse. Opening the electronics console on top of the machine we discovered that the mouse had made a nest in the wires using lint and chewed-up bits of the wiring diagram! She had also chewed the insulation off six wires. We cleaned up the mess and rewrapped the wires with electrical tape before replacing the switch block. We installed the new switch block that came within a few days and crossed our fingers as we tested the machine. It works great now!! Thanks so much for your great how-to videos and fast parts shipping. We were able to make the repair and get the machine going before our family visited for Thanksgiving. It would have been much more difficult if we would have had to visit the washeteria instead of spending the holiday with our family. P.S. We called the repairman who charged us $140 for a useless visit and told him we were going to give him a bad rating because we were able to fix it ourselves after he told us the machine was toast. He opted to return the cost of the service call. Read More... 12 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
Michael D Ambler , PA November 03, 2014 Appliance: Model MAYTAG OLD MODEL 1993. Lid switch washer Lid switch problem. Easy to fix, not so easy to diagnose. First thing to look at if something goes wrong and there does not appear to overtly be mechanical issue like pump, etc. Read More... 48 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Pliers, Screwdrivers

Albert C Richmond , KY August 11, 2017 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer A8740 Bad lid switch. Wasn't sure it was the lid switch because I could still hear the normal click when I open and closed the lid of the washer. Popped the cover (four Phillips head screws) and started checking things with a multi-meter (schematic was taped to the inside of the compartment). The fuse was good and it looked like the cover open switch was good too. After studying the schematic a little closer I realized that there were two switches on the card, cover open and "check". It was the "check" switch that was bad. Just the switch was available for a little less $ but as everything was 20+ years old so I ordered the whole assembly. I was a little worried about adjusting things as the whole assembly is able to slide back and forth to match up with the mechanical linkage, but I put everything back in the same position as before and it worked like a charm! Would be able to do the repair in much less time the second time around. Randall T Saginaw , MI February 08, 2022 Appliance: Model LAT8426AAE-MAYTAG Washer stopped filling with water after closing lid. Looked up the lid switch part using the model number on the washing machine. Learned on AppliancePartsPros website that lid switch assembly or water admission valve could be the problem. Made sense it was lid switch since that was when fill feature failed. Could see from the parts list there were 3 different switch designs. Watch how-to videos that were supplied for each part, and determined which switch assembly I needed. Ordered part and it arrived in time specified. Followed installation instructions and Washer now functioning properly. This process took all of 2 days. Excellent resource. Thank you! Brian S Atlanta , GA December 14, 2021 My Maytag washer lid switch was not functioning. Easiest Repair I ever made. I saw my daughter at a family gathering on Sunday and left the part with her. I told her I would come over and install it the next evening. She called me Monday morning to tell me she had installed it herself and it worked great. I wish all Dad-jobs went like this. Bayshore Veterinary C Miami , FL November 21, 2018 Appliance: Model MAYRAG A9200 Maytag washer would not start A simple web search ("Maytag A9200 washer won't start") led me to your site, where I learned that something called the "lid switch assembly" was the likely culprit and I saw your video showing how to install it. I'm no handyman but it didn't seem that complicated, so I ordered one. I came promptly in the mail, I installed it and it worked like a charm. We could not be happier. Our machine is back on, the repair was inexpensive and a little bit of work prevented a perfectly functioning appliance from being thrown away in the trash heap. (NOTE: Below I indicate it took 30-60 minutes, but the only reason it took so long is that, being a novice, I went about it slowly, triple checking every step and making sure my machine matched the one in your video, which it did).
