Despite all of the parts diagrams showing that you need to replace the whole door, I was able to repair only what was broken (the cheap plastic latch) in 5 minutes with this part!
The only tool needed was a putty knife to carefully pry out the trim plate. The door removed from the unit by simply lifting off the hinge and the part just required some finesse to wiggle back into place. It literally took 5 minutes from start to finish. I spent more time trying to find the matching latch online than actually doing the repair.
Not sure why GE indicates this part is not available. Please please don't buy the whole door just to repair the latch!!
