How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3682051 / WB02X11096 Latch

Despite all of the parts diagrams showing that you need to replace the whole door, I was able to repair only what was broken (the cheap plastic latch) in 5 minutes with this part! The only tool needed was a putty knife to carefully pry out the trim plate. The door removed from the unit by simply lifting off the hinge and the part just required some finesse to wiggle back into place. It literally took 5 minutes from start to finish. I spent more time trying to find the matching latch online than actually doing the repair. Not sure why GE indicates this part is not available. Please please don't buy the whole door just to repair the latch!! 

Extremely grateful to another user on this site, I used this part to fix the door instead of getting a whole new door, since this part isn't "officially" associated with this particular model (i.e., if you look up parts for the profile advantium, they do not list a door latch part separately). But this part worked perfectly and it was a very simple fix, although it took a little time taking of the old one and fitting this in, so be patient and get a partner to hold up a flashlight while you dig in there (The spring is not included in this part, so be sure to keep the old spring). I found a YouTube video that helped with the confidence to pry off the inner lining (I used a butter knife, a strong puddy knive would have been better in retrospect, I cracked a little part of the plastic lining). But once it was in, door closes perfectly, and microwave works as per the norm. 

Took door apart and put in new latch. GE has the replacement part as the whole door, which is very expensive. Found others with same predicament who used this latch, which is the exact one used originally. 

I ordered a new latch and I also had to order a new choke since I broke one of the tabs off of it when I removed it. I put the new latch in and connected the spring and I was done. It was fairly easy! 

Reviewed "How To" on You Tube. Very simple to replace and fix - took approximately 5 minutes to fix. Working again and cost was under $20. 

Disassembled door. Took about 30 min. GE said part was unavailable for my microwave. psa1201ssr01. I found that latch from another microwave was a match. So for $4.10 I was able to repair microwave without having to buy a whole door for $300.00. 

Listen Up. I never respond to these sites buy thinking I was buying a new microwave and then spending less than $15 to repair mine deserves a reply. My son pulled the door of the microwave open and it would not stay shut so I went on the internet and read about the possible problems, watched a u-tube video by Paulstoolbox, took the inside face off the microwave off, removed the latch, order the part from AppliancePartsPros.com and 2 days later it arrived and walla , the microwave is back in action. The schematics on AppliancePartsPro are right on. 

Went to the GE website and found the diagram and operating manuals for my model of microwave . Located the necessary parts that needed to be replaced and then purchased them on AppliancePartsPros.com at a savings. Repair was a 15 minute event and microwave now enters cooking mode and door shuts and stays shut just like before it was broken. 

New latch. Replaced and had it in perfect working order in less than 5 minutes. 

Ordered latch and spring and replaced them. Removed latch and spring cover with a putty knife.
