I bought the dishwasher used and the control panel never fully worked. The countdown timer was non-functional, many of the buttons were unresponsive, and "start" needed to be pressed multiple times before the dishwasher would turn on. After a few months, none of the lights worked, and all the buttons stopped responding. I first replaced the handle, since it was also broken (the door was difficult to open) and there was a chance it wasn't registering the door as fully closed. The new handle works great, but it didn't help the control panel. Finally replaced the control panel and noted there was a black dot in the old control panel ribbon cable where the traces were broken. The new control attached easily and functions 100%. This maintenance required a torx bit (T20 I think) for the door panel, and a 1/4" socket for the computer housing and control panel. The only tricky part was unplugging the ribbon cable. The socket on the computer board has to be pulled/slid back away from the ribbon cable. This loosens the socket, so the cable can be removed. Once you insert the new cable, slide the socket towards the cable, and it should hold the cable firmly.
