So I noticed a few months ago that the dishwasher door felt a lot heavier than it used to. Then just recently I opened it and heard something snap and the door came crashing down onto my foot! Ouch!! The door was still able to close but opening it required it being fully lowered by hand. I had no idea how heavy the dishwasher door was! So I got down onto the kitchen floor with a flashlight. I removed the metal panel at it’s base by lifting it up and pulling it out. Once I was able to get a glimpse under there I noticed that there are springs at the lower rear and those springs are connected to nylon cords that wrap under a stationary plastic wheel and then attach to the door frame about 3 inches above the bottom of the door. I went to this website and found the parts. I needed 2 new springs and 2 cords. But I was on a mission to get this fixed before someone broke their foot!! I called my local hardware store. They said they didn’t carry these parts but gave me the number for an appliance parts store about 15 minutes away. I called them and they had one spring and one cord in stock and both were a few dollars more than this website. So I ordered them online and tracked my order until it was finally delivered. It did take 6 days to arrive but once it did I was back down on the kitchen floor. The first side was tricky. I attached the cord to the spring and had to try to attach it to the door while pulling on it and that wasn’t easy, but I finally got it. However, for the second side I decided to attach the spring first by itself. Then I attached the cord to the door and then I just had to pull the spring to attach to the cord which was way easier than attaching the cord to the door while it’s attached to the spring. Then I was done. I stood up and with my fingers crossed, I pulled the door open and it stayed in its place. It was fixed!! Then I went back down to put the metal floor panel back in place. I was very proud of myself!! You will need long skinny arms and/or a set of tongs to remove the broken springs from the back of the dishwasher. Other than that, a flashlight is mandatory. Good luck. It can be done! If I can do it, you can do it. I’m not an appliance repair man!
