I found out that this was a common problem with older models. 99% of the time the repair is to replace the control unit. Being somewhat handy and not wanting to hire a repair tech I did a little research (looked at a few youtube videos of the actual repair). I discovered that the repair was a simple one. I will add that one thing that was stressed by the youtube technicians. Always use original factory parts. I found my replacement part (original part) at AppliancePartsPros.com.
They were very professional and answered all my questions. I made the repair. The dishwasher is working fine and my wife is very happy!
