I first looked for likely causes on the internet. Since I could not hear the microswitch click when I pressed in the dispenser lever, I suspected something with the switch.
I removed the bezel from the front of the dispensing unit and noted that the mounts for the switch were broken. I ordered a new housing and also replaced a plastic chute that had also broken. The total repair took about 30 to 45 minutes. The only mistake I made was in not going to AppliancePartsPro's website to watch a video on taking the bezel off first.
