I replaced the strike plate first and that did not fix the problem. So, I replaced the latch. That solved the problem. I would like to make a special note to others. Before doing anything, check the gasket on the dishwasher frame. Our dishwasher is ten years old and the gasket is beginning to wear, even though it's not leaking. We noticed that the gasket was "distorted" enough to also interfere with the door closing. If damage to the strike plate or the latch is not obvious, I would recommend checking the gasket before tackling replacement of either the strike plate or the latch.
