Truth be told many years ago the same problem happened. Took the panel apart and replace with a new timer motor, only to find out the shaft of the knob was cracked to allow the metal collar to have play in it !
Happen again years later..knew what it was..ordered the part...came the following day !!!!!! exact replacement.....
