Started by testing drain pump. Could hear it kick on when I started a spin only cycle. I also tested the wiring plug coming to the pump. It had 120 V. Next, I removed the rubber boot between drain pump and washer tub. I cleaned the little plastic catch in the boot as it was full of various small objects that had went through the washer. Thought I had maybe fixed the issue with that, as we were able to wash a few loads of laundry. E 23 code came back, and I then followed the how to video and removed the main control board and found the burnt out relay by looking at the back side of the board and noticing the burnt spot. If you know someone that works in electronic control boards, you could probably get something like this fixed for a very small fee. I went ahead and ordered the new control board. I also chose to replace the door lock because the original was getting pretty worn.
