Ordered a replacement burner. The stove is 15 years old, Maytag, so I went with the original Whirlpool part. Two screws on either side of the stove, exposed when the oven door is open, are all that you need to remove the cook top. However, when I installed the replacement burner I discovered the following: 1. The replacement burner has no divider between the smaller and larger element, and the thermostat is different (no issue); 2. The terminals on the thermostat have been relocated! 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b are in a different place on the new burner, making it necessary to lengthen the wire from the stove top harness connector pin 1 to the burner, and to stretch the daisy chain wire serving the "hot" indicator. So, when you are doing this job for an older stove, be sure to check your labeling on the terminals, and be prepared to do some splicing. Be sure to use high temperature rated wire and splices!
