Thomas B Hillsborough , NJ October 22, 2018 Appliance: Model 1990 CALORIC MODEL RSS398 Failed spark module The spark module for my 1990 Caloric Model RSS398 Natural Gas double oven range stopped functioning. I tried to get the part at a local appliance parts store and was unsuccessful as they said the part was discontinued. I called the Appliance Parts Pros help line and spoke to an excellent service tech who took the time and made the effort to reference, cross reference, and find a part that was different in configuration, but functionally the same. The replacement part required modifications to the mounting bracket and to the two igniter wire female end disconnects. The AC power disconnects to the spark module fit without any modifications. The replacement unit high voltage male terminals were smaller in size than the originals and would not accept the old larger igniter wires. Rather than cut the igniter wire disconnects off and put on smaller female disconnects, I was able to modify the correct smaller size female disconnect ends to fit into the old larger igniter wire disconnects. This now allowed the old igniter wires to be connected directly to the smaller male spark module high voltage terminals. I was a little skeptical that the replacement module would work, but as of this communication everything is functioning without any problems. Because of the modifications the installation took approximately 2 and 1/2 hours from start to finish. This was a lot easier than replacing the double oven range which probably would have required major modifications to the cabinetry, counter tops. and exhaust fan hood. In addition to the cost of a new unit. Thank you Rachael for your help 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours
