I used the very helpful videos from Appliance Parts Pro to remove the ice dispenser assembly and isolate the problem to the ice dispenser motor coupling. The motor itself was working normally but the coupler was stripped and would slip while trying to drive the ice dispenser auger. Read comments from others that the stripped coupler had to be cut off and that was the same for me. Also its probably impossible to cut it off without also damaging the auger motor so if you are in this situation you almost certainly will need a new motor too. In the end I ordered a new motor and motor coupling from Appliance Parts Pro and replaced both after cutting off the old stripped coupler with a dremel. More work then I was expecting but cheaper then a service call and everyone is happy now with a functioning ice dispenser.
