At first I replace the ice auger motor. This did not fix the problem but the video from AppliancePartsPros was helpful if this had been the problem. Upon further inspection the pins that hold the switch for the ice lever had fatigued over many years and broke. Replacing the bracket fixed the problem. The instructional video to replace the bracket was very helpful.
