There were two things wrong. First was the ice-maker itself that after 18 yrs finally gave up the ghost. Even if I could've fixed the unit itself it was very dirty and corroded so I ordered the ice-maker kit which was an exact fit, and a breeze to replace.
The second problem was the part of the ice delivery auger system called the fan which was broken. This was more involved to take apart and put back together but simple enough, thanks especially to the repair videos which were both excellent.
By the next morning, we had our ice-maker and in-door ice delivery and crusher working just like new and now we don't have to buy bags of ice anymore!
