I replaced the heating element. The original one had been in place for over five years but started leaking at both locations where it pierces the tub to make its electrical connection. The original one had been defective and had no metal expansion to hold the rubber seal/washer in place. The replacement had a quarter-sized metal expansion the hold the similarly sized rubber washer in place once the tower nut is tightened.
