The drum had worn away the bearing slides and part of the drum front support. I plugged in the appliance number and watched a few of the how to videos on the web site. It was almost as easy to fix as the videos made it look. However, I decided to not replace the rear bearing since it looked to be much more involved.
The four bearing slides, front support bearing, and felt strip arrived in a couple of days and the repair took about 30 minutes. So far my dryer works and sounds normal.
