I really hate intermittent problems with appliances. In this case our year and a half year old Maytag french door refrigerator would quit making ice. After reading as much as I could on line, I removed the icemaker (no small feat) and it would work for a couple weeks when I put it back. Water pressure and solenoids worked fine. In opening the motor module, which mechanically controlled most of the complicated process, I found that the motor, when bypassed, ran fine. Thermo relay closed when cold, etc. When it finally quit for good, I discovered that the micro switch that activated the water solenoid was bad. As the switch was held in place by melted plastic posts, it couldn't be replaced. I bought the entire module, which was an exact replacement (evidently for Whirlpool and others). I replaced the old module and it has been making ice reliably for several days now. I worked on this issue for several weeks, off and on, and learned far more than I cared to about icemakers.
