We unplugged the stove, unscrewed the assembly on the backboard, unpeeled the damaged overlay, cleaned the sticky residue, reapplied the new overlay, then reassembled the backboard. We had to repeat the reassembly after realizing that the oven vent fan had not been properly replaced facing the stove top after the first effort. We had watched a YouTube movie about the procedure before attempting it.
